Halloween

Halloween is coming, and all year I've been planning on going as Mulan, and Kit as Mushu. (Mostly because I found some pretty fake silk brocade stuff at Walmart's $1/yd shelf that I thought would make a nice Mulan.) But last night plans changed. While reading her favorite bedtime story, Kit said, "Mom, I know what WE can be for Halloween!"

Dutifully, I responded, "What can we be for Halloween, Kit?"

"The Spider and the Fly!"

"What a good idea, Kit. Do you want to be the Spider or the Fly?"

"I want to be the Spider! And you can be the Fly, and say 'Oh, no no!'" (with Spider said in a sort of ominous stage whisper and "oh, no no!" said in a falsetto with a strange accent, just like I read the book.)

So, we are going to go as the Spider and the Fly from Tony DiTerlizzi's beautiful picture book, and now I have to figure out how to go about making Kit a Spider costume (yes, I know the Spider is a guy, but I am not uptight that way) and me a Fly costume, both of which keep the feel of a black and white film, and with heavy 20's ispiration. Got any ideas where I can find a nice straight-line, multi-layered 20's dress pattern?
